2011.04.01 - 19:06:33 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu. Los Muñequitos de Matanzas. Havana, Cuba.- Two of the best Cuban folkloric bands — Los Muñequitos de Matanzas and Juan de Marcos and the Afro-Cuban All Stars — will perform in Seattle within the next few days.

The 59-year-old Cuba-based Muñequitos’s concert is scheduled for Sunday at the Meany Theater, University of Washington, while the Afro-Cuban All Stars’ performances are scheduled from Thursday through Tuesday at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley.

Both bands are in the US taking part in the Si Cuba Festival running from March to June. The event was convened by 14 New York institutions to showcase the diversity of the Cuban culture from the traditional to the modern, according to the Festival’s website sicuba.org.

Los Muñequitos de Matanzas are considered part of the living legend of the African music in Cuba and remain very close to their Abakua roots. As described by The New York Times they provide “spectacular sensual dancing and some of the most complex drumming to be heard in this hemisphere.”

The Afro-Cuban All Stars, directed by tres player Juan de Marcos, spans four generations of musicians. Its repertoire is a mix of musical styles including timba and jazz.(ACN)
