Por Indira Santana.Ciego de Avila, Cuba, Apr 1 (Prensa Latina) The prestigious Swiss doctor Martin Herrmann expressed his satisfaction over exchanging experiences with Cuban doctors on inguinal hernia surgery with local anesthesia.
In remarks to Prensa Latina, Herrmann stressed the importance of showing his skills to surgeons interested in surgical procedures that facilitate the work and have a greater impact on the population.
In many countries, surgical procedures are expensive, but in Cuba these services are provided to all persons equally and free, he noted.
During a theoretical/practical workshop on inguinal hernia surgery with local anesthesia in the city of Ciego de Avila, Herrmann talked about key procedures for this type of operation
The workshop helped specialists from Ciego de Avila gain agility and perfect their technique, said Dr. Felipe Aragon, a surgeon at the Antonio Luaces Iraola Provincial Hospital.
This is not a new technique, but is now used in developed countries because it is more economical and beneficial for the patient, given that it does involve pre-operative preparation and has no adverse complications, Aragon said.
A speedy recovery is another advantage, because the procedure is ambulatory, he said.
