HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 28 (acn) In a Cuban government’s effort to improve health services, the production of plastic bottles for drugs of the island will see an increase by 20 million with the assembly of a new line in the Frask Plast plant, located to the west of Havana.

The Trabajadores newspaper said the new line is on the final stage and it will increase production from 40 to 60 million containers of different sizes to be used for capsule medicaments and creams produced by the Chemical Pharmaceutical Laboratories QUIMEFA.

Andres Zenea Lopez who is in charge of the investment project said a 500-mililitter variety of which 25 million bottles were imported every year, will be added to the line, representing a saving of 1.5 million dollars to the country per year.

The investments which include other remodeling projects in the plant –one of the three of its type in the country-, are part of the Cuban government’s efforts to improve health services overcoming the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the US against Cuba.

The damages of the Cuban health system caused by Washington’s hostile policy, between May 2009 and April 2010, amounted to $15.2 million, according to the most recent report presented by Cuba at the United Nations.
