Authorities in China and Cuba noted the high level achieved in bilateral cooperation during a visit to the Changchun Heber Biological Technology Ltd (Chang Heber) joint venture in the northern province of Jilin.

Participated in the tour of the facility in Changchun, capital of the territory, were the Commissioner of the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA), Shao Mingli, and Cuban ambassador to this country, Carlos Miguel Pereira.

Both were accompanied by officials of the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) and the Office of the Scientific Services, among other officials of the two nations.

Cuban delegation sources told Prensa Latina that on the occasion the quality of the design of the facility was appreciated, according to international standards of Good Manufacturing Practices.

ChangHeber manufactures recombinant human alpha interferon and has built a plant to produce a vaccine against Haemophilus influenzae type B, with Cuban technology.

The company president, I Yongshan, referred to the quality of that interferon and transfer of new technology to produce the said immunizer by chemical synthesis.

He added that they expect to provide for the incorporation of new techniques to make drugs such as pegylated interferon.

He recalled that there is also a joint project with the IGBC to develop a vaccine candidate against hepatitic C.

For his part, Commissioner Shao welcomed the invitation by the ambassador to the joint venture, a symbol of compliance with health regulations, and reiterated China's interest in cooperating with Cuba in the field of biotechnology.

Meanwhile, Pereira highlighted the importance of ChangHeber as an example of collaboration in this field and the support he has received from the provincial and local authorities.

Also, the deputy governor of Jilin, Man Junqing, reiterated the support of the administration of the territory and its structures for this project and willingness to expand cooperation with the Caribbean country in various fields.
