By WILL WEISSERT, Associated Press Will Weissert. EL PASO, Texas – Attorneys for an ex-CIA operative on trial for perjury in Texas are trying to discredit a former New York Times reporter who interviewed their client about planning 1997 bombings in Cuba.

Ann Louise Bardach was questioned Monday about a 1998 article she helped write about anti-communist militant Luis Posada Carriles. The article says Posada "proudly admitted authorship" of the bombings, which killed an Italian tourist.

Defense attorney Arturo Hernandez deconstructed the article for jurors, trying to suggest Bardach exaggerated what Posada said. Bardach denied the claims, noting Posada agreed to sit down with her over three days of interviews.

The 83-year-old Posada is accused of lying during U.S. citizenship hearings in 2005. He's also charged with obstruction and immigration fraud.

Born in Cuba, Posada is Fidel Castro's personal nemesis.
