marta sanchez.Havana, Mar 20 (Prensa Latina) Authorities had granted 171,000 new permits for private employment as of March 11, according to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.

In the Cuban capital, young people are joining this sector in making and selling food, selling a variety of items, and in trades like hairdressing, the newspaper Juventud Rebelde reported Sunday.

For some of these young people who had not been working or studying, private or self-employment may be very beneficial in social terms by providing a means of employment, the article said.

However, strategies are needed for opening up the channels for supplies needed to do these jobs when the country is in a position to do so, the newspaper said.

The article referred to young people who have chosen this option in the special municipality of Isle of Youth, and in other provinces such as eastern Las Tunas and central Cienfuegos.
