The Monumental Complex to Ernesto Che Guevara was awarded the Provincial Award for Conservation and Restoration of Monuments 2011 for the excellence of the preservation of the structure, the use of state-of-the-art technology in the solutions to stop the deterioration of the monument.

"This contest aims at encouraging the rescue of the cultural patrimony built in the province. This year that award goes to one of the most visited and well-preserved monuments in the country"- expressed Marta Anido, vice-president of the National Association of Writers and Artists in the province.

Another place awarded for its preservation and conservation was the local guesthouse, Hostal Auténtica Pérgola, located at number 61 Luis Estévez Street, between Independencia and Martí Streets, in the city of Santa Clara. Other works recognized by the National Association were the construction work at the Purísima Concepción de María Catholic Church in the municipality of Quemado de Güines and the headquarters of the National Association of Architects and Engineers of Construction in Remedios, the Eighth Village.

The Memorial Sculptural Complex to Commander Ernesto Che Guevara, a National Monument, was founded on December 28, 1988 on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Battle of Santa Clara and is composed of an open square, a tribune, a museum, a memorial and the Mausoleum to the Combatants of the Front in Las Villas.

All the works awarded have been nominated to the National Award for Conservation and Restoration of Monuments 2011.
