16 March 2011. The US Government gave approval to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida, US, to offer charter flights to Cuba.

Charter provider Airline Brokers is planning to deploy an A320 aircraft with a 150-passenger capacity and offer flights from Fort Lauderdale, starting in June or this summer.

The company now offers seven flights a week from Miami to Cuba.

Fort Lauderdale joins the 11 other US airports now authorised to offer charter flights to Cuba.

Currently, only three other US airports, including Miami International, John F. Kennedy International and Los Angeles International, are authorised to serve Cuba directly.

The US Government recently approved a total of eight US airports to provide charter service to Cuba.

The airports include Atlanta, Chicago's O'Hare, Baltimore, Dallas / Fort Worth, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, Tampa and San Juan in Puerto Rico.
