The Associated Press,HAVANA — The Catholic church says Cuba has promised to release another political prisoner jailed since a 2003 crackdown on opposition leaders.

The decision to free Ricardo Librado Linares Garcia means just two prisoners remain from the 2003 sweep, as Cuba makes good on a deal with church leaders to release the last of the 75 intellectuals, activists and social commentators.

Church spokesman Orlando Marquez said Wednesday that authorities are also freeing nine other prisoners and sending them into exile in Spain, along with their families. Most of them were in jail for violent, but politically motivated crimes.
