Raúl Castro welcomed Marco Aurelio García for a work visit in Havana Wednesday, according to Granma.

Castro talked with García, special advisor of international affairs for Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff, about the “excellent state of relations between Cuba and Brazil, particularly the development and perspectives of economic and trade links,” the Communist Party newspaper said.

Brazil is providing hundreds of millions of dollars in loans for infrastructure construction, such as the Phase 1 expansion of the Port of Mariel. Further expansion of the container and oil logistics port west of Havana depends on the availability of loans. Brazilian construction companies are also vying to get a big share of the overdue renovation of Cuba’s highways. Other projects, such as construction of a joint venture lubricants plant by state company Petrobras, are pending.

Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez and Foreign Trade and Investment Minister Rodrigo Malmierca also participated in the meeting.
