Former US tennis star Jimmy Connors praised the process of selection and monitoring of talented people in tennis in Cuba, according to Jit weekly.

Connors toured facilities used during the Pan-American Games of 1991 and said to be pleasantly impressed by the system used in Cuba to detect and develop players from early stages to their high performance phase, and recognized the role of schools and the development of human resources.

Connors, 58, the winner of eight Grand Slam titles and another 106 titles in the professional circuit, came to Havana invited by a tourist agency and met with Cuban tennis authorities, players and coaches.

He appeared last week as the best tennis player in history (1968-2010) in a study by US researcher Filippo Radicci of the Northwestern University.
