2011.03.05  / radiorebelde.Four Crowns for Cuba in First Day of Pan American Judo Cup. Havana, Cuba.- Four crowns, a silver and three bronze medals was Cuba’s tally during the first day of the Pan American Judo Cup that concludes on Saturday in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Press reports from the venue of the competition inform that the Cuban gold medalists on Friday were Yalennis Castillo (women’s 78 kg), Idalis Ortiz (women’s +78 kg), Asley Gonzalez (men’s 90 kg) and Oreidis Despaigne (men’s 100 kg).

The silver medal was for Onix Cortes (women’s 70 kg) while the bronze medals were for Yaritza Abel (women’s 63 kg), Osmay Cruz (men’s 81 kg) and Oscar Braison (men’s +100 kg).

After these results, the Cuban team (4-1-3) leads the standings closely followed by Brazil (3-2-2).

In the last day of the event on Saturday, Cuba is represented by Dayaris Mestre (women’s 48 kg ), Yanet Bermoy (women’s 52 kg), Yurisleidis Lupetey (women’s 57 kg), Antonio Betancourt (men’s 60 kg), Ángelo Gómez (men’s 66 kg) and Ronald Girones (men’s 73 kg).

A total of 170 judokas from 22 countries are participating in the contest, which grants classification points for the upcoming Pan American Games of Guadalajara, Mexico, in October 2011.(ACN)
