Havana, Mar 4 (Prensa Latina) Cuban First Vice President Jose Ramon Machado Ventura received José Graziano da Silva, Brazil''s candidate for the post of director general of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.

During their meeting Thursday in the Palace of the Revolution, Machado ratified to the visitor Cuba's support for his candidacy in the upcoming June FAO elections in Rome, according to Granma newspaper.

Machado and Da Silva also discussed other international issues, including the serious food situation affecting the world in the context of the global economic crisis, the Granma reported.

At their meeting, the Brazilian ambassador in Cuba, Jose Eduardo Martins, and Cuban First Deputy Minister Marcelino Medina also were present.

As part of his March 2-3 stay in Cuba, Silva also spoke with the directors of Cuban organizations linked to the themes of food and agriculture.
