2011.02.24 / radiorebelde.HAVANA, Cuba. -The Second Cuban Film Festival began on Thursday in the US state of Minnesota. The event, which will run until March 31, includes the screening of five feature films and a documentary.

The Minnesota-Cuba Committee, organizer of the annual Festival, announced on its Web site the showing of the movies Cangamba, Lisanka, Los dioses rotos, Eso que anda, and El diario de Mauricio, and of the documentary “Que el verdadero terrorista se ponga de pie” (Will the real terrorist please stand up) by Saul Landau.

Every Thursday, the public will be able to enjoy the screening of a film at the St. Anthony Main Theater of the city of Minneapolis, like in the previous edition of the Festival, the aim of which is to make it possible for US citizens to know more about Cuban reality.

According to the event’s organizers, the previous edition “was a resounding success” and showed that “Minnesota residents are Cuban cinema lovers.”

Films like Clandestinos, La ultima cena and Viva Cuba were warmly welcomed by moviegoers in this Midwest state.

The Minnesota-Cuba Committee was created in 1990 with the objective of promoting the re-establishment of the Cuba-USA relations, demanding the lifting of the blockade and showing the achievements of the Cuban Revolution.

Along with Pastors for Peace and the Venceremos Brigade, it has defied the travel ban established by the US government so its citizens can’t travel to Cuba, by organizing trips to the island and supporting the abolition of that law.

Among the Committee’s most important tasks we find the spreading of the truth about the case of the five Cuban heroes now serving long and harsh sentences in the US for trying to prevent terrorist actions against Cuba. (ACN)
