A press release from the National Office of Statistics referred to the arrival of 40,610 visitors in that month, more than in January 2010, a good beginning for the Cuban tourist industry this year.

In relation to the same period of time in 2007, 2008 and 2009, this record represents an increase of 33.9, 19.2 and 10.5 percent, respectively.

The growth of international tourism constitutes one of the main goals of the island, which hopes to receive 2.7 million tourists this year.

This destination, one of the most important in the Caribbean, closed 2010 with 4.2 percent by providing accommodation to over 2.5 million foreign visitors.
