2011.02.22 - 10:40:30 /radiorebelde.HAVANA, CUBA.- Cuban pair Jose Antonio Guerra and Jeinkler Aguirre won a bronze medal in the men’s 3-meter platform synchro event of the first meet of the FINA Diving Grand Prix 2011 held from February 18-20 in Madrid, Spain.

The Cubans accumulated 381,66 points to finish behind champions Yuan Cao and Yuanquan Zhang (460,95) from China, and runners-up Victor Minibaev and Ilya Zakharov (439,59) from Russia.

In the 10-meter platform, Guerra placed fifth with 470,75 units, far behind gold medalist Cao (576,30), runner-up Luxin Zhou —also from China—, and third place Oleksandr Bondar (500,60) from Ukraine.

China dominated the meet winning six out of the eight titles up for grabs. Ukrainian Illya Kvasha (men’s 3-meter springboard) and Canadian Jennifer Abel (women’s 3-meter springboard) preventing a total Chinese sweep.

The next FINA Grand Prix meet will take place in Penza, Russia, on February 24-26. The other stages are scheduled for Montreal, Canada (April 28-May 1); Fort  Lauderdale, United States (May 5-8), Rostock, Germany (May 27-29) and Bolzano, Italy (June 10-12).
