Cuba will set up a medical facility in Ukraine for the treatment of cancer patients, Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov said after meeting Friday in Kiev with visiting Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla. The unit would be fully funded by Ukraine.

"Let us creat a joint medical facility in Ukraine to treat cancer and other serious diseases, using Cuban medical technology and pharmaceutical products," Azarov said, according to the news agency Liga.

The Ukrainian pharmaceutical firm Darnitsa is ready to participate in the project, Azarov said.

"The implementation of this idea in Kiev will allow Cuban doctors to have a window on Europe," the prime minister said, adding that he has already instructed his Ministry of Health to work out the details with Cuba, "without too much bureaucracy."

"And during the visit of our president to Cuba in May, we shall sign a bilateral agreement," Azarov said. Rodríguez agreed, saying that "this is a project we can work on."

The Cuban visitor also proposed increased cooperation in the sectors of engineering and agriculture, specifically the sale to Cuba of tractors and milking machines.

"According to the minister, Cuba is interested in the direct supply of agricultural products from Ukraine, because it currently obtains them through intermediaries," Liga reported.
