HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 17 (acn) Cuba and India could increase scientific cooperation as a result of the meetings that the director of the Havana-based Finlay Institute, Dr. Concepcion Campa, has held in New Delhi with representatives from different scientific and biotechnological sectors, Prensa Latina news agency reports.

During her visit to the Indian Central Council for Research in Homeopathy (CCRH), the Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy, and the Ayurvedic Research Center, both parts talked about strengthening and expanding the use of natural medicine in Cuba.

During an interactive meeting organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India, Campa spoke of Cuba’s achievements in the filed of vaccines, mostly produced by the Finlay Institute, to representatives from several Indian enterprises from the biotechnology sector.

She referred to Cuba’s wide immunization program, which has contributed to reducing infant mortality rate to 4.5 per one thousand live births.

Campa also talked about the difficulties Cuba faces in the field of biotechnology due to the US economic blockade imposed against Cuba for more than 50 years.

According to a press release by the Cuban embassy in India, the Cuban doctor traveled to New Delhi in response to an invitation from the Indian Council of Medical Research of the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
