Wednesday, February 16, 2011. MONTEGO BAY, St James — Haiti and Cuba, losers on Monday's opening day of the CONCACAF Under-17 tournament, must win today if they are to extend their stay and advance past the first round.

The action switches to Jarrett Park with a double-header set to start at 12:00 noon featuring El Salvador versus Haiti and Panama versus Cuba at 4:30.

Both Haiti and Cuba were beaten 3-1 on Monday, Haiti going down against Costa Rica and Cuba beaten by the United States, two of the top teams in the tournament.

El Salvador and Panama are seeking their first ever appearances in the World Cup, which will be held in Mexico later this year, while Cuba and Haiti have previously advanced to the FIFA tournament.

Cuba have two appearances, in 1989 in Scotland and 1991 in Italy, managing just one draw against Ghana in the first Finals.

Haiti qualified for the World Cup four years ago in the Korea Republic, drawing against France while losing to Japan and Nigeria.

Haiti, whose coach Wilner Etienne admitted their preparation was severely hampered by lack of funds, will have it difficult against El Salvador.

In addition to their lack of match practice, a number of Haitian players have been treated for injuries and illness, while one player — starting left-back Jonathon Monplaisir -- was hospitalised at the Cornwall Regional Hospital.

They will also be without Luckeson Demosthene who was red-carded on Monday and will miss this game.

El Salvador, who beat Nicaragua and then lost to Costa Rica, should get the better of the Haitians, setting up a clash against Costa Rica at the same venue on Friday.

Cuba looked good in parts on Monday, but failed to capitalise on their many chances against the Americans, and according to coach Israel Blake, they will look at the errors they made and work on them.

Frank Lopez, who came on in the second half to add spark to the Cuban attack and scored their only goal, could force his way into the starting line up.

The Panama team will have one slight advantage as they have seen the Cubans in acting, having watched Monday's game at the Montego Bay Sports Complex, and would be able to plan accordingly.
