Havana, Feb 7 (Prensa Latina) The search for integration projects in the Latin America region to guarantee technological independence is now a constant feature in the opening of 14th International Informatics Convention and Fair in Cuba, Informatica 2011.

The forum, which runs in Havana Feb. 7-11, will discuss common issues as the driving forces for development in science and technology, organizing committee president Jorge Luis Perdomo said.

Projects with Cuba's strategic technological partners in the sector, such as China, Russia and Spain, as well as members of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America comprise the scientific program and associated exhibitions.

A workshop of the International Telecommunications Union with its general secretary, Hamadoun Toure, and informatics ministers from Africa and Latin America are also main components of this event, which 2,000 delegates from 35 countries are expected to attend.

Participants include Edmond A. Manssur, Antigua and Barbudaminister of state, broadcasting and telecommunications; Daryl Vaz, Jamaican minister of sspecial projects, information supervision, and telecommunication of Jamaica; Angolan Social Communication Minister Carolina Cerqueira; and Esteban Pacha-Vicente, director general of the International Mobile Satellite Organization.

A business forum with representatives from 80 companies in 17 countries, half of them Cubans, will also be held in parallel with the Informatica 2011 Convention.
