Santiago de Cuba, Feb 5 (Prensa Latina) The Center of Applied Linguistics (CAL) has institutional ties with about 10 countries for mutual enrichment in research and practice in human communication.

In its 40 years of existence the institution maintains sustained collaboration with experts from Humboldt University in Germany, Twente in Holland, Malaga in the Basque Country in Spain, with Gotemurg in Sweden and Franche-Comte Besancon, France.

A special link also occupies the Genoa section of the Computational Linguistic Institute in Italy as well as contacts with high study centers of the Valley of Orizaba in Veracruz, Mexico and educational centers in Venezuela.

The international projection of CAL includes 62 specialized courses in Spanish for foreigners and participation of Italian specialists in the preparation of Spanish Spelling Dictionaries as well as Spanish anagrams.

Another important achievement is the series of International Social Communication Symposiums begun in 1987 that recently developed a noted presence in the study of Cubans and students from 26 nations.

A broader extension towards Spanish speaking America and the Caribbean is a priority for the center as a means to favor unity in the use of a common language.
