VARADERO, Cuba, Feb 3 (acn) Tourism directors in the seaside resort of Varadero in the central Cuban province of Matanzas ratified the commitment of its workers to offer better quality services without falling in squandering resources.

MINTUR delegate Amado Acosta said that it is necessary to continue working for this purpose, as he commented the request of President Raul Castro during the extended meeting of the Council of Ministers held on January 28 and 29, reports Granma newspaper.

He mentioned that they are implementing actions to reduce expenses and costs tourist-day and to increase control on the many resources in the sector, given that by saving resources tourism could make important contributions to the economy of the country.

Acosta noted that there has been a reduction on the number of administrative means of transportation, as well as greater control in freight transport means,and in the supplies.

He added that seven per cent of the clients polled showed certain discomfort with the services received; therefore there is still work to do.

That's why, he insisted in that good treatment to the clients and diversifying the offer are key aspects in the tourist sector.

Varadero annually receives about 40 per cent of the tourists arriving in the country, and in 2010 it received, third year in a row, a million visitors coming form all over the world. Today, it has 50 hotels and about 19 000 rooms.

According to Granma newspaper, Varadero took in an average of 27 000 visitors a day last month.
