CIENFUEGOS, Cuba, Feb 2 (acn) The centenarian Luisa movie theater will be the venue of a festival of Latin American films about emancipating process in the region, as part of the program of the 20th International Book Fair Cuba 2011.

Local critic and specialist with the Provincial Film Center Jorge Luis Lanza said the festival will take place on February 23-27. Among the films to be screened are "The Mission" (1986) by Roland Joffe, and "Miranda Returns" (2007) by Venezuelan Luis Alberto Lamata, about the deeds of precursor of Hispanic American independence Francisco de Miranda.

Lanza also mentioned "Queimada" (1969) by Gillo Pontecorvo, who presents a clever slave owner who attempts to unleash a revolution against the Portuguese.

Lanza said the films selected for the festival have a high cultural value and feature great actors like Robert De Niro, Lean Neeson, Danny Glover and Marlon Brando.

During last year's Int'l Book Fair, Cienfuegos' film center offered a festival of Chilean movies including Mirageman, Taxi for three and Kill Everyone.

According to the Cubaliteraria website, this year the event will pay homage to the Bicentenary of the first independent country of Latin America, to the 220 years of the Haitian Revolution and the first declaration of slavery abolition.
