2011.02.01 - 15:27:38 / Havana, Cuba.- The preliminary stages of the Cuban National Volleyball League (both, for women and men) will begin on February 1 in the 19 de Noviembre and Alejandro  Urguelles Sports Centers.

In the men’s division, Capitalinos vs. Universidad Del Deporte Cubano and Centrales vs. Orientales matches are scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

The men’s league will continue in Havana from February 8 to 12 in the Kid Chocolate Sport Center, and in the Leonardo Mackenzie from February 15 to 19.

The women’s league will begin with the match between Capitalinas and Centrales in the afternoon as well. They will play in the eastern province of Las Tunas from February 8 to 12, and in the central province of Ciego de Avila from February 15 to 19.

The final will take place in the Kid Chocolate Sport Center, from February 28 to March 5, including a play off between the two teams (women and men) with the best results during the qualifying round.

The president of the Cuban Federation of Volleyball, Raul Diago, highlighted the need of playing well because these stages are the beginning of the preparation for the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, the most important event of the year.

Diago mentioned other international events like the North, Centro-American, and the Caribbean tournaments, which qualify for World Cups that also count for the Olympic Games in London 2012, the women’s Grand Prix, and the World League for men.(ACN)
