Photo: archive.The draws between Grand Masters (GM) Oleiny Linares and Maritza Arribas, and the win by the rookie and FIDE Master (MF) Tania Miranda over International Master (IM) Lisandra Llaudy took three players to the top of the National Chess Championship for women underway in the Cuban city of Holguin.

After three rounds, Arribas and Linares -both from Santiago de Cuba, and Miranda from Camaguey, total three points and go on the lead.

Something to be praised is that Tania Miranda lost her first match, but has been successful ever since.

In other results, IM Yulekis Fleites (Villa Clara) defeated FM Mayrobis Castillo in 21 moves of a Sicilian defense, and GM Sulennis Pina (Granma) was much better than tested GM Zirka Frometa of Santiago de Cuba.

Also FM of Pinar del Rio Yerisbel Miranda won over Yuleisis Hernandez (Havana) in 31 moves of a Sicilian defense, and IM Lisandra Ordaz (Pinar del Rio) won over her team mate and FM Zenia Corrales in 58 moves of a Petrov opening. Ordaz has the highest ELO (rating) in the contest with 2343 points.

FM Ivette Catala (Matanzas) was the other winner, while the other players drew.

The contest’s standing has Arribas, Linares and Miranda with three points in the top, from the fourth to the ninth position go tied Marrero, Ordaz, Yerisbel, Amanda, Vigoa and Campos.
