2011.01.28 - 13:39:43 / NUEVA GERONA.- Cuban singer songwriter Pablo Milanes concluded in the Isle of Youth a successful tour across Cuba that started last year’s November 9 in the easternmost province of the island, Guantanamo.

Milanes, internationally known for Yolanda and El Breve Espacio en que no estas, told CAN he was happy to see people from all generations in his concerts during the tour, but he said to be rather particularly impressed to see young people singing his songs.

More than 5,000 people attended the last concert of the tour in Nueva Gerona, Isle of Youth, where he sang classics like Para vivir, Yo no te pido and Amame como soy and songs from his most recent records such as Diario de Mauricio –theme song of Cuban feature film Paginas del diario de Mauricio and Matinal, both from his album Regalo, recorded in 2008 featuring Chucho Valdes.

This is Milanes’ first Cuba tour in 23 years of absence when he made a national tour named I love this island (Amo esta Isla), in 1988.

Local government vice president Arelis Casañola Quintana gave Milanes a replica of the city’s shield in recognition to his contributions to the Cuban culture and for being a true representative of the Cuban musical talent.

Together with Silvio Rodriguez, Milanes is known as one of the founders of the New Trova, a social protest musical genre that emerged after the triumph of the Revolution.(ACN)
