GUANTANAMO, Cuba, Jan 28 (acn) The changes induced by the analog forestry program in salinized soils of the locality of Paraguay, located in the semidesert region south of this province, were acknowledged on Thursday by Canadian specialists.

Julia Girard and Natalie Perini, experts in Agronomy and the Environment,respectively, and consultants with the project, praised the results obtained in three pilot hectares in the communities of Cecilia, La Sombrilla and Paraguay of eastern Guantanamo province.

They explained that analog forestry is an agricultural technology aimed at recovering degraded soils, by way of the sowing of tress and other plants analogue from the points of view of their structure and function to the native ones of the area in question, for the benefit of neighboring communities.

In statements to ACN, the representatives of the Canadian Falls Brook Center, an organization linked to the International Analog Forestry Network, of which Cuba is a member, underlined how, by way of this method, the flora is diversified and the approach of locals is changed with respect to the environment.

The two specialists coincide that plantations increase with the diversification of trees, which offers safety to the sustainability and survival of forests.

Girard and Perini extolled Cuba for its willingness to save Nature and acknowledged the high qualification of national specialists to carry out conservation actions, analog forestry among them.
