HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 27 (acn) Cuba denounced the closing of Cubadebate's channel in Youtube at the International Symposium on Freedom of Expression organized by UNESCO in Paris.

The event was organized with the support of the Swedish foreign ministry and had Jean-Francois Julliard, General Director of Reporters without Borders (RSF,French acronyms) as speaker.

The organization "was sanctioned by the United Nation's former Human Rights Commission, in 2003, for acting against principles of freedom of expression," Juan Antonio Fernandez, chairman of the Cuban National Commission for UNESCO, told Cubadebate.

Cuban ambassador to UNESCO, Maria de los Angeles Florez told Prensa Latina that it is not a secret to anyone that RSF specializes in attacking South countries, particularly those that have tried to improve the living conditions of their people and support a new world economic order.

In response to RSF's directors attacks against the island at the meeting, Florez slammed the organization for silencing fragrant violations of the freedom of expression such as the closing of Google-owned Youtube's channel of Cubadebate.

"On January 11, Google closed the channel on the grounds of alleged royalties violations about a video cut out from a bigger material whose author's name was not published."

The ambassador's firm statements were not responded by Google representative Robert O. Boorstin, Public Policies director.

The Cuban ambassador went on to quote former Google's executive director Eric Schmidt's statements at a conference in the University of Princeton about how Google was not allowed to do business with Cuba, however, the company's official said they would do everything in their power to let the Cuban people know that "those ruling the country (Cuba) most be overthrown."

Google restricts Cubans' access to several of its services namely Google Earth,Google Code and Google Chrome.

Florez said UNESCO's meeting was highly politicized and biased to companies like Google, inhibiting debates.

Google is facing lawsuit filed by the European Union for monopolizing practices and data manipulation.
