2011.01.27 - 09:21:46 / HOLGUIN, CUBA.- Los Panaderos Cave, in the city of Gibara, will be the sub-venue, from February 1st through the 3rd, of the 11th edition of the International Film Festival of Lebu, which will run parallel to the one scheduled for the Chilean city with the same name.

The event will have Mexico as guest country, and will also offer screenings at La Boca del Lobo Club of Madrid, Spain, and at the Documentary Film Observatory-School of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Sponsored among other organizations by the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC) and the Provincial Cinema Center of Holguin, the event is aimed at showing low-budget productions of high aesthetic and visual quality in several communities.

Sergio Benvenuto, director of the Humberto Solas International Low-Budget Film Festival and organizer of this meeting, told ACN that Gibara will host the Competition of International Documentaries in addition to granting a Popularity Prize.

The producers of the wining audiovisual will be presented with this prize during the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of Lebu, in Chile.

He also underlined that the event, starting from the first day, will include a collateral program with the films that were part of the 3rd Humberto Solas Thematic Exhibition of Low-Budget Cinema, held in Havana in 2010.

Among the materials to be enjoyed at Los Panaderos Cave are the Chilean documentaries “Cronica de una retransmision”, by Juan Cofre, “El espiritu de la machi”, by Francisca Silva and Rafaella Tonini, and “Todos somos huacho”, by Eduardo Villalobos.

The Festival of Lebu is an initiative by Chilean producer Claudia Pino, who decided to give her hometown, lacking movie theaters and economic conditions to have them, the possibility to enjoy films and documentaries made in different parts of the world.(ACN)
