AIN /  Wednesday, 26 January 2011 13:45. The gorgeous coastal city of Gibara to harbor again a film festival. Photo: Amauris Betancourt. The La Caverna de los Panaderos (Cavern of the Bakers), in the city of Gibara, will be a venue from February 1 to February 3 of the 11th edition of the International Movie Festival of Cinema Lebu, which will session simultaneously in the Chilean homonymous city.

The event, having Mexico as a honor guest, will offer exhibitions in Club La Boca del Lobo in Madrid, Spain, and in the School of Documentary Cinema in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Sponsored by the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC for its Spanish acronyms) and Holguin’s Provincial Cinema Center, the event has as a goal reach communities with low-budget proposals showing a high esthetic and visual quality.

Sergio Benvenuto, director of the International Festival of Poor Cinema Humberto Solas and organizer of this event in the Island explained that Gibara hosts the Competition of International Documentaries and grants a Public Award.

That prize, he said, will be granted to the producers of the winning piece during the closing ceremony of the International Movie Festival of Cinema Lebu, in Chile.

He also pointed that, from its opening day, the event shows a collateral program with which the Third Theme Display of Poor Cinema Humberto Solas, held in Havana in 2010.

Among the proposals to be enjoyed in the Cavern of the Bakers, the program announces Chilean documentaries “Cronica de una retransmission” (Chronicle of a Replay), by Juan Cofre; “El espíritu de la machi” (The Spirit of the Machi), by Francisca Silva and Rafaella Tonini, and “Todos somos huacho” (We Are All Huacho), by Eduardo Villalobos.

Lebu Festival emerged when Chilean filmmaker Claudia Pino decided to give her birth city, lacking exhibition halls and economic conditions to have them, the possibility of watching films and documentaries made in different parts of the world. (Translated by ahora.cu)
