Lecture by Miguel Barnet next Tuesday, February 1, 7PM. DePaul University at John R. Cortelyou Commons, 2324 N. Fremont Street, Chicago.  Miguel Barnet is an internationally renowned ethnographer, poet, and novelist.His best known work, Autobiography of a Runaway Slave (1966), currently in its 65th edition and translated into more than a dozen languages, is considered a ground-breaking work and the standard in the field of testimonio, or testimonial narrative.

Other works like Gallego and Canción de Rachel (La Bella del Alhambra), have been made into films and also translated into multiple languages. La Vida Real (A True Story) has been translated into English and will be presented in New York City later this month.

Dr. Barnet is the recipient of numerous national and international awards,including the National Prize of Literature (Cuba, 1994), the García Lorca Prize (Spain), and the José Donoso Prize (Chile). He is currently President of Cuba's National Union of Writers and Artists (UNEAC) and the Fernando Ortíz Foundation in Havana, and a member of Cuba's National Assembly (Parliament).
