2011.01.22 - 09:46:49 /Pablo Milanes in Pinar del Rio: a Concert among Friends. Pinar del Rio, Cuba.- Cuban singer-songwriter Pablo Milanes, winner of the 2005 National Music Prize, invited the public to have fun, sing and have a wonderful evening among friends, and made this invitation a reality with the concert he offered in this city as part of his national tour.

With a timbre defying his almost 50 years of artistic life, Milanes, also a founder of the island’s New Song Movement, interpreted 16 songs, between anthological pieces like Yolanda, El primer amor and El breve espacio en que no estas, and Diario de Mauricio and Matinal, exponents of his last album -Regalo.

During his presentation at the provisional Revolution Square on Thursday night, of a little over one hour and a half, the artist, who has won two Latin Grammies (2006), received a piece by Humberto Hernandez, El Negro, one of the main representatives of fine arts in the province.

A very special moment was the presentation, together with Milanes and his group, of four young guest artists from Pinar del Rio, who demonstrated their skill with brass instruments. They are part of the project Inter-nos, which gathers graduates from conservatories.

As part of a predominantly young audience, Monica Sanchez, 23, expressed her appreciation for the reencounter of the author of "Para vivir" with the public of the island’s westernmost territory, considering the occasion as a luxury in the beginning of 2011.

Born on February 24, 1943 in Bayamo, Pablo Milanes has recorded some 40 albums and he’s about to conclude this national tour -after 22 years of not carrying out one- with a performance scheduled for Sunday at Havana’s Karl Marx Theater and a presentation on the Isle of Youth on January 27, according to information provided by members of his group.

After the recital, music lovers in Pinar del Rio wanted to more songs from Milanes, while many, in a humorous reference to his theme Los dias de Gloria (The days of glory), asserted that his artistic quality is still enjoying a glorious moment. [email protected]. (ACN)
