2011-January-19 Source: Szdaily web edition. Cuba looked forward to close cooperation with Shenzhen in the field of biotechnology, Felix Raul Rojas, Cuban consul general in Guangzhou, said yesterday (Jan 18) during a visit to Shenzhen Daily.

Having limited resources, Cuba has been sparing no effort to develop its biotechnology industry and has taken an internationally competitive edge in biological pharmacy and agricultural biotechnology. Shenzhen has also made the biotech industry one of its three strategic emerging industries for future development.

"Cuba has established cooperation with Shenzhen's leading technological companies such as Huawei and ZTE," Rojas said.

"You can find Chinese products everywhere in Cuba, which has been supplying raw materials such as sugar to China. In addition, there are Chinese students studying Spanish in Cuba," said Rojas.

The consul general aspired to take relations between China and Cuba to a new high and "create more links with Chinese cities like Shenzhen."

Cuba established diplomatic relations with China in 1960, becoming the first country in Latin America to do so.

Impressed by the modernity of Shenzhen, Rojas expressed confidence in a successful Universiade in Shenzhen in August. A Cuban delegation is expected to attend.

"I was impressed by the warm reception during the Asian Games in Guangzhou last year. I'm pretty sure that Shenzhen will do something similar," Rojas said.

He suggested Shenzhen maintain a warm reception throughout the Universiade to impress athletes from around the world.
