HAVANA, Cuba, Jan15 (acn) The Organization in Solidarity with the Peoples of Asia, Africa and Latin America (OSPAAAL) celebrated its 45th anniversary on Friday with a special tribute to its founders, Revolution leader Fidel Castro and President Raul Castro.

The meeting, chaired by Cuban Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon took place at the Tryp Habana Libre Hotel, the venue of the 1st Tri-continental Conference held in January, 1966, which led to the constitution of the OSPAAAL, on January 15.

Also honored during the gathering were Alarcón, Osmani Cienfuegos, Melba Hernandez and Alfredo Guevara, members of the Cuban delegation that participated in the historic event, which represented a challenge to imperialism and ratified the willingness of the peoples of these continents to struggle for sovereignty and social justice.

Another special moment was the reading of a letter sent to the OSPAAAL by the five Cuban heroes imprisoned in the United States for fighting terrorism, in which they highlight the organization’s tireless battle against the evils weighing on the world.

Participating in the meeting were diplomats of the embassies of Algeria,Vietnam, Puerto Rico and Ecuador to Havana, who extolled the promotion of international solidarity and of the ideals of emancipation carried out by the OSPAAAL during its 45 years of existence.

Likewise, Kenia Serrano, president of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples; relatives of the Cuban Five; and Jorge Risquet and Oscar Martinez,members of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party, were present in the meeting.
