CIENFUEGOS, Cuba, Jan 12 (acn) The Southern Cross Brigade, coming from Australia and New Zealand, arrived in the central Cuban province of Cienfuegos on January 12, for a four days long stay.

This is the 28th contingent of this brigade, which is made up of 20 members who defend the right to visit Cuba freely and condemn the US economic blockade imposed against it for more than 50 years.

Brigade member Jeffrey Walton said, on behalf of the brigade, that they will offer their support and friendship to the Cuban people.

Keith Headland, retired rail worker and trade union activist, mentioned the support of the Australian organization of solidarity with Cuba to the Cuban cause and talked about the actions taken forward for the release of the five Cuban antiterrorist unjustly imprisoned in the US since 1998.

Laurie Izacs Macsween, the leader of this 28th contingent, noted the warmth of all Cubans and pointed out that they will try to make public the truth hidden by the mainstream media.

The head of the provincial director of the Cuban Friendship Institute, María Probance, mentioned that the program of the brigade includes volunteer work and meetings with people from that city to get to known the Cuban reality.

Probance said that the brigade will also visit other places of social, economic and cultural interest such as the Benny More Art School and the Camilo Cienfuegos Oil Refinery.

The Southern Cross Brigade has visited Cuba uninterruptedly since 1983 with the purpose of promoting solidarity among thousands of Australians and New Zealanders.
