Escrito por Rose Ana Berbeo.05 de enero de 2011, 11:04 Tunisia, Jan 5 (Prensa Latina) President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali sent a message to Cuban President Raul Castro expressing his desire to further strengthen his country´s friendly, cooperative relations with Cuba, diplomatic sources said Wednesday.

In his greetings saluting the 52nd anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, observed on Jan. 1, Ben Ali emphasized his desire to carry out join actions for the mutual benefit of both peoples.

Prensa Latina learned of the message through Cuban embassy sources and it was published in the local newspaper La Presse.

Ben Ali´s message joined with other, similar notes from regional leaders to the Cuban president, such as Algeria´s Abdelaziz Bouteflika; Egypt´s Hosni Mubarak, and Qatar´s Sheik Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani.

Cuban diplomats and resident in Tunisia met on Dec. 31 at the ambassador´s residence in the capital, along with Tunisian graduates from Cuban universities, to commemorate the 1959 victory.

Similar festivities were held in Algeria, Egypt and Qatar. In Qatar, more than 110 Cuban health cooperation workers, a sports trainer, and embassy personnel organized a political/cultural event to celebrate the New Year.hr/mv/ucl/rab
