(PRWEB) January 3, 2011. Toronto- based Authentic Cuba Travel, under the auspices of the Cuban Institute of Music and the Organizing Committee of the International Jazz Festival of Havana “Jazz Plaza”, has announced the 27th International Jazz Festival of Havana Official Cuba Tour 2011.

The jazz Cuba tour will take place from December 14 to December 21, 2011, and will travel to the best preserved historical cores in the Americas and UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Havana City, Cienfuegos, and Trinidad City. The tour also features a visit to Las Terrazas eco-community in Sierra del Rosario, established as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

Tour participants will enjoy premium seats at the opening and closing ceremonies of the 27th edition of Jazz Festival of Havana, and rub shoulders with prestigious International and Cuban Jazz musicians. The complimentary Jazz Pass, provided by Authentic Cuba Travel, will grant tour participants unlimited access to all concerts, venues and events across Havana city,

The first international edition of the jazz festival took place in 1981 at a House of Culture located in Havana’s municipality of Plaza (from which the event took its name). Under the presidency of renowned jazz master Chucho Valdes, winner of 7 Grammy awards and 14 nominations for this award, the festival has gained recognition as one of the finest jazz events of the world.

The last edition of the International Jazz Festival of Havana that took place in December 2010 was attended by over twenty international Jazz bands such as Chico O'Farrill Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra -led by younger Arturo O’ Farril , University of Texas Jazz Orchestra, Joaquín Betancourt’s Jazz Band and Michael Fleiner’s Latin Jazz Septet.

Due to the festival's booming success the concerts venues now include several locations in Havana, such as the Amadeo Roldan theatre (where the Cuban Symphony Orchestra performs), the Mella Theatre, Casa de la Cultura of Plaza, Palacio de La Rumba, Casa del Alba, National Theatre of Cuba, Sevilla and Cohiba Hotels.

Renowned international jazz masters have participated in Jazz Plaza, among others Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, Carmen McCrae, Charlie Haden, Michel Lengrand, Ronnie Scott, Hugh Fraser, Kash Killion, Daniel Martina, Luis Monge. Great Jazz bands such as Cubanola, the Ronnie Mathews Trio, the Kenny Barron Trio, and Dave Valentin, among others have also performed at the “Jazz Plaza” through the years.

Prestigious Cuban jazz bands and soloists also take part every year, among them Mayra Caridad Valdés, Bobby Carcassés, José Luis Cortés, Harold López-Nussa , Ernán López-Nussa and Lázaro Valdés. Late night jams are a nightly occurrence and have provided interesting match-ups such as Roy Hargrove sitting in with percussion legend Changuito and others.

There’s also a space for younger talents who will soon be making their mark on the jazz world such as Elmer Ferrer, Yazek Manzano, Jesus Fuentes, Toni Perez, Alexis Bosch, Mario Hernandez, Toni Rodriguez and Jorge Chicay.
