By: Yuris Norido. The panorama of scenic arts this year was marked by the national homage to the prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso, in her 90th anniversary. In fact, the Ministry of Culture denominated 2010 as "Alicia Year", and it included a program of celebrations where all arts manifestations participated.

The highest point in these days was the International Ballet Festival of Havana which began as it has become customary, on October 28 and dancers from several countries of America, Europe, and Asia participated.

One of the most important events in the appointment was the presence of two important North American companies: the American Ballet Theatre and the New York City Ballet which offered excellent performances before a public that received them with enthusiasm.

It was precisely the American Ballet, the company in which Alicia Alonso reached the international stardom, it organized a homage to the Cuban dancer in its headquarters of New York. Other two big companies: the Bolshoi, from Russia, and the Royal Ballet, from Great Britain dedicated beautiful galas to the dancer.

The year of celebrations finished on Alicia's anniversary, on December 21, with a gala at the Great Theater of Havana.

Havana was also headquarters this year of a new edition of the Biennial of Dance of the Caribbean, where groups and artists of the region participated.

The National Prize for Dance went to the hands of the choreographer and dancer Tomas Morales, in recognition to his work in television and in several scenarios, especially in the famous cabaret Tropicana, where he works as show director.

Several dance companies premiered works here: Cuba’s Contemporary Dance, the company of Rosario Cardenas, the Contemporary Ballet Endedans, the Spanish Ballet of Cuba, and the National Ballet.
