Cuban Chess Player Bruzon Increases His ELO. By PL / [email protected] / Friday, 31 December 2010 14:03. Lazaro Bruzon. Photo: PLLazaro Bruzon increased his ELO and Leinier Dominguez became a chess elite member in the updating of the chess world ranking, the Cuban News Agency reported.

According to the official site of the World Chess Federation, FIDE, Bruzon added 18 points in the last two months and reached 2,686 ELO, his best.

With that new personal record he climbed from 58th position to 51st.

On the other hand, Leinier kept his 2,716 ELO points and is now placed in 30th position and among the top 39 players with more than 2,700 ELO points.

The world ranking is led by Norwegian Magnus Carlsen with 2,814 ELO points, followed by Indian Viswanathan Anand (2 810).

Dominguez is still the first and best ranked for Latin America and third in the continent, behind U.S. players Hikaru Nakamura (2,751) and Gata Kamsky (2,730).

Cuba is 18th by country with 2,593 points and is placed first for Latin America and second in the continent, preceded by the USA with 2,640.

The other Cuban players ranked are Yuniesky Quesada (2,620), Fidel Corrales (2,591), Omar Almeida (2,576), Jesus Nogueiras (2,565), Holden Hernandez (2,564), Isam Ortiz (2,555), Yusnel Bacallao (2,531) and Camilo Gomez (2,526).
