Viernes, 24 de diciembre de 2010.Havana, Dec 24 (Prensa Latina) Female triple jumper Yargelis Savigne and male free wrestler Mijain Lopez were chosen the best athletes of Cuba in 2010, according to a poll by the Cuban Institute for Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER) and the specialized press media.

Volleyball was selected the Best Collective Sport and the male team was the Best Team.

Mijain Lopez and Savigne dominated the votes in the individual category. In collective sports, volleyball players Roberlandy Simón and Kenia Carcasés were the winners.

Wrestling won the award in the individual sports, and the 10 most outstanding athletes were Wilfredo León (vollleyball), Yumari González (cycling), Yaniet Marrero (chess), Yarelis Barrios (track and field), Héctor Olivera (baseball), Idalis Ortiz (judo) ,José Antonio Guerra (diving), Dayron Robles (track and field), Alfredo Despaigne (baseball) and Yoelmis Hernández (weightlifting).

Head coaches Pedro Val (wrestling) and Santiago Antunez (track and field) were given a special recognition.

Eric Hernandez was the best athlete in special sports, Claudio Marco Valdés the Best Physical Education Teacher, and Isao Rafael Cruz the Best Disabled Athlete.

Best Umpire was Lourdes Perez (volleyball) in the international category, and Lazaro Hidalgo (basketball) was selected the Best National Umpire.

Finally, the Best Junior Athletes were Dainelis Alcantara (track and field) and Robeisis Ramirez (boxing).
