12/21/2010. By Giusette León García. Yes, for you. And for me. Nelson Dominguez will exhibit at the Pabellon Cuba (Cuba Pavilion) from next April 15 through May 15, for all those who are willing to let themselves be attracted by an artistic proposal of high quality. “I want to make an exhibition for the people”, said the 2009 National Painting award laureate in an exclusive interview for Cubasi.

“It is not demagogy or anything like that, it is an interest of mine, I want to make an exhibition for the people, because you make an exhibition at the Museum and a group of people see it and the story ends there, your friends go later… but I want to make an exhibition, in which there’s a participation of the people, where they are interested in going...

“Of course, we are going to organize an exhibition with a series of characteristics that is going to make the people want to go, for example, if you are told that certain casual number is going to receive a present, a work from the artist though it is small, that interests you and that is so that the people participate. I find it very important that the people participate in it, because at the end all those people paid my career too.”

The exhibit responds to the usual commitment of those who receive the top award of Cuba’s plastic arts: to exhibit their work at the transitory halls of the National Museum of Fine Arts. However, Nelson has decided to change the scenario because of space reasons. “I am going to improvise a studio, something that I did in the ‘80s, disclosed the creator who plans to occupy practically all the areas of the Pabellon, located on the central 23rd Street, in Havana’s Vedado district.

The exhibition will allow a tour through the dissimilar variants of the plastic arts in which this author has incursed and the meeting with his latest work, in fact, currently he’s working on big canvas that plot to contribute the visual present that Nelson intends to make to the Cuban public:

“I am trying to make works with different ranges, because you don’t have to bore the people with a number of works at an exhibition, where perhaps the theme changes, but when the use of color is reiterative, it may bore the spectator however much interesting the theme is, then I am working with the idea of how that work is going to look in that space.”
