Some 30 works, between feature films and shorts, animated films and documentaries made between 1961 and 2009, make up the retrospective that Cuba will take to the event, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.

The film Los dioses rotos, by Cuban director Ernesto Daranas, will participate in the international section of the competition, along with another seven movies from different parts of the world.

Among the films to be presented by the Caribbean island we find some classics, like Memories of Underdevelopment (1968), by Tomas Gutierrez Alea; Lucia (1968), by Humberto Solas; Portrait of Teresa (1979), by Pastor Vega, and Strawberry and Chocolate (1993), by Tomas Gutierrez Alea and Juan Carlos Tabio.

This important retrospective will give Mexican moviegoers the opportunity to know the most notable materials of Cuban filmography.

According to organizers, the event will include a Festival of Mexican Cinema, in which recent films of the host nation will be presented, as well as two competitive sections, one national and one international.

Participating in the event will be representatives of Argentinean, Chilean, Venezuelan, Brazilian and Portuguese cinema, which will turn the festival into one of the most important in Mexico, the www.milenio.com Web site reports.

The FICCMexico will give the Diana Prizes in various categories, for which eight national and eight international feature films will compete.
