HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 18 (acn) The final day of discussions of the Sixth Ordinary Period of Sessions of the Seventh Legislature of the Cuban National Assembly (Parliament) began on Saturday morning at Havana’s Convention Center with the participation of President Raul Castro.

After analyzing for two consecutive days the Draft Guidelines for the Economic and Social Policy of the Party and the Revolution, the parliamentarians will approve the State Budget and the Economic Plan for 2011.

Discussions on Friday focused on the restructuring of sectors such as education,sports, culture and employment as well as in the analysis of the Draft Guidelines for the Economic and Social Policy of the Party and the Revolution.

Regarding the Guidelines dealing with the industrial and energy policies, the Minister of Economy and Planning, Marino Murillo, said that it is important to reduce the consumption of fuel and the use of electricity. In this respect, he added that the maintenance works in power plants and their vitality will be a priority.

He noted that in the coming years, tourism should increase its dynamism as well as its competitiveness and efficiency.

With regard to the transportation sector, he pointed out that the country will focus on the development of the railroad system to move goods.

As to the process of investment, he announced that there should be a boost in the construction of houses by the population in the 2011-2015 period.

On Friday, parliamentarians also voted to elect the judges to the People’s Supreme Court and the results are to be announced on Saturday.
