Mezcla nominations for Best Latin Jazz Award

By Redaccion Cubasi. Four members of the Cuban group Mezcla, including its director Pablo Menéndez, were nominated for the award BEST LATIN JAZZ 2010 in the United States after having a very successful tour in this country, this summer.

Menéndez was nominated for Best guitar player while his colleagues Orlando Sánchez, Octavio Rodríguez and Magela Herrera compete in the categories of saxophone, percussion and flute, respectively.

The band, which fuses Afro-Cuban rhythms with jazz and other exotic trends, has released its latest album "I'll See You in Cuba!" - ZOHO record label - in New York.

Mezcla offered a dozen of sold-out concerts in four northern states and sometimes had to give repeated shows to satisfy many people who were outside and wished to enjoy the band's music.

Barbara Dane, Menendez's mother, was the first American artist who dared to travel to Cuba after the triumph of the revolution to offer concerts and break the exclusive U.S. policy.

Mezcla has a show the last Saturday of each month in the Cultural House of Plaza de la Revolución in Havana. Many artists are invited. The band will share stage with Lucia Huerta, Osamu, Yory Gomez, Nina Menéndez, Miguel Chavez (Flamenco) and Mauro Menéndez (DJ) and violinist William Roblejo.
