2010.12.11 - 20:56:48 / [email protected]. Film on Jose Marti Sweeps Havana Film Festival’s Collateral Awards. Havana, Cuba.- The film Jose Marti: the Eye of the Canary by Cuban filmmaker Fernando Perez won most collateral awards at the 32nd International Festival of the New Latin American Cinema.

The film won prizes granted by the Association of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC), the Cuban Association of Cinematographic Press and UNICEF in a ceremony held at the Hotel Nacional in Havana.

The film also won the awards granted by the National Federation of Movie Clubs and by the Martin Luther King Memorial Center.

Perez’ new feature film focuses on the life of Cuban national hero Jose Marti from age 9 to 17. The film is described as a look into the inner world of Marti and the formation of his character as a fair man.

On related news, the prize to the most popular movie went to Casa Vieja by Cuban director Lester Hamlet.

Casa Vieja (Old House) is based on a play by Albelardo Istorino and takes place in the early years of the Cuban Revolution.  

The Coral awards for the 32nd International Festival of the New Latin American Cinema will be announced on Sunday.
