By Ana Julia Suarez Cruz. Celebrated U.S. composer and guitarist Gary Lucas announced that he hopes to record an album with Cuban musicians to express his affection for the Caribbean country.

Here for the Havana Film Festival, Lucas told Prensa Latina that singer-songwriter Pablo Milanes is one possible candidate for this project, which is still in the initial stages.

The former Captain Beefheart guitarist says his links with Cuban jazz and culture began last year, when he first came to the Havana Film Festival.

Back in his native New York, however, he had always looked to greats like Chano Pozo.

On Friday as part of the festival, Lucas will play live musical accompaniment for the Brazilian horror film classic This Night I'll Possess Your Corpse (Esta Noite Encarnarei no Teu Cadáver, 1967), by Jose Mojica.

The American singer, a horror flick fan, said it was an honor for him to play here, especially for one of the best horror films he has ever seen.

After the film festival, Lucas plans to take part in the Jazz Plaza International Festival, founded and led by Cuban jazz musician Chucho Valdes, Dec. 16-19.
