Ballet Nacional de Cuba Gears Up for Nutcracker Season in Canada

Cuban News Agency. Friday, December 03, 2010. HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 2 (ACN) Ballet Nacional de Cuba will be performing Nutcracker at the Hamilton Place Theatre in Ontario, Canada, on the days between December 9 and 12 in a season dedicated to the 90th birthday of Alicia Alonso.
As part of a program to celebrate Alonso's birthday, an exhibition of sculptures inspired on the Cuban prima ballerina assoluta, named Sensuality in Movement will be also unveiled in Hamilton.
On December 9, a documentary film about Alonso’s life and work “A legend’s Orbit” directed by Jose Ramón Neyra and produced by the Cuban National Museum of Dance will be presented.
The traditional and long-awaited performance of Nutcracker by the Cuban company will have Barbara Garcia, Viengsay Valdes, Sadaise Arencibia, Elier Bouzac, Alejandro Virelles, Dani Hernandez, Leandro Perez, Dariela Gonzalez, Monica Gomez and Dairon Darias on the main roles.
This year, children of the Canadian Ballet Youth Ensemble will be joining the Cuban dancers on stage.
