Top News: Several senior Democrats said Thursday that a bill to relax travel restrictions for U.S. citizens to Cuba will not move forward.

"There will be no action," said Rep. Bill Delahunt (D-Mass), a supporter of the bill. The bill will likely flounder next year as well. With the Republican gains in the November midterm elections, Cuban-American Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fl) will take the leadership position in the House Foreign Relations Committee, and she supports maintaining current restrictions.

The news was reported the day before the year anniversary of the jailing of U.S. contractor Alan Gross, who the Cuban government has accused of espionage, though he has not been formally charged with a crime. Gross' detention has become a sore point in U.S.-Cuban relations.
