Cuban musicians Chucho Valdes and Edesio Alejandro were nominated for Grammy Awards in the categories of best album of Latin jazz and tropical Latin album, respectively.

Valdés was nominated for his CD Chucho Steps, recorded with his new band Mensajeros afrocubanos, under the label Concord Picante, while Edesio Alejandro got it with his "100 Cuban son", which he produced with Nelson Estevez and Juan Hidalgo with the label J & Records.

Winner of seven Grammy awards and 14 nominations for this award, Valdes captivated the public this year at festivals and shows in Europe, Asia, Africa and America during the promotional tour for his new project.

Edesio Alexander did an excellent job in his dual compact, which includes an overview of the son from the start, based on a survey around the island, especially in the eastern part of Cuba, to select the most representative pieces of the son, one of the fundamental roots of Cuban sound heritage.
