2010.12.02 - 10:42:10 / [email protected]. HAVANA, Cuba. - The government of France described as very positive the resumption of bilateral cooperation with Cuba after the signing of a declaration last Tuesday in Havana.

The accord highlights the common willingness to strengthen bilateral historic bonds and to promote systematic exchange in areas of mutual benefit.

Bernard Valero, spokesman of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that France “congratulates itself” for the resumption of cooperation to foster university exchange, the spread of the French language and scientific research, Prensa Latina news agency reports.

Valero noted that, at the same time, cooperation and assistance in other fields will be possible through NGOs and French research organizations.

He added that, over the last few years, France has sold different products to Cuba such as food, machinery, cars and equipment for the heavy industry and the energy sector.

The French spokesman said that this new stage of relations is the result of the task entrusted in 2009 by French President Nicolas Sarkozy to Jack Lang, a current parliamentarian and former Socialist minister.
